Call Vance Aloupis and Tell Him to Vote No on the Don't Say Gay Bill

Yesterday afternoon, the House Education & Employment Committee gave notice that it will hear the Don't Say Gay (so-called “Parental Rights in Education”) bill HB 1557/SB 1834 this Thursday, January 20, at 9:00 AM.  This is the first of only two House committee stops for the bill, as opposed to the usual three committee stops.

The bill is sponsored by Rep. Joe Harding and Sen. Dennis Baxley, both of whom have spoken clearly in favor of anti-LGBTQ legislation in the past. It includes expressly anti-LGBTQ provisions that prohibit “discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels,” appears intended to undermine LGBTQ support in schools, and includes vague parental notification requirements open to manipulation.

The Equality Florida team is working on a one-pager and resources that they plan to share soon, but we wanted to ensure this was on your radar. We will be targeting the following lawmakers and urging them to vote no on the bill.

PLEASE CALL:

  • Rep. Aloupis
    • (305) 270-6530 (district), (850) 717-5115 (capitol)

And tell us how your call went below:

Dear Rep. Aloupis,

You have sought and received the support of the Miami-Dade LGBTQ+ community in the past. Now we are calling on you to be an ally and defeat a piece of legislation designed to silence and make our community invisible.

LGBTQ persons deserve dignity and respect, especially when they are in school. Protect our vulnerable LGBTQ+ youth, and vote against HB 1557.

Who's signing

Cliff O'Neill

Will you make a phone call?

I simply said I was a constituent, gave them my information, and I told the Stafford to relay to the representative to oppose house bill 1557. They took down the information and thanked me.
